Duties

These positions are located in the diagnostic section of the Radiology Service within the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHS) with duty locations at the Brooklyn and New York, NY campuses. The Health Technician - Radiology is a highly trained individual who rotates between the Computerized Tomography (CT Scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Interventional Procedures and other sections of Radiology Service.
The major duties and responsibilities include:
Provides nursing care to patients with IV's, diversionary stomas, dressings and devices for respiratory assistance;
Assures the safety of the patient by the proper use of equipment supports and/or restraints;
Observes and monitors the patient closely during the procedure and notifies the physician of any change in the patient's condition;
Collaborates with the CAT Scan and MRI Technologist in recommending equipment and supplies;
Maintains sterile equipment and handles injectables;
Assists with special procedures (i.e. vascular, cerebral angiograms, femoral angiograms, abdominal angiograms, etc.) provides guide wires, catheters, solutions, contrast media, etc.;
Stocks pharmaceuticals and surgical supplies for the special procedures;
Prepares angiogram trays for all procedures and assists in assembling, procuring and the movement of supplies and equipment;
Provides nursing care to patients with IV's, diversionary stomas, dressings and devices for respiratory assistance;
Assists in moving and positioning the patient as related to the specific examination;
Checks for expired items, and;
Performs other duties as assigned.

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am until 4:30pm.
