Duties

NOTE: This is a part-time position (20 hours/week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.
NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed September 30, 2018). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to a 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
The Health Science Specialist - Research Assistant will be working primarily on the study entitled "Family Telemental Health Intervention for Veterans with Dementia located at the Veterans Health Administration in New York, NY. Major duties include:
  • Ensure data integrity and fidelity by instructing and supervising participant completion of study measures according to the study protocol;
  • Compile, tabulate, and summarize data obtained during the project and provide input in development of reports. Data will be obtained from semi-structured interviews conducted by the Health Science Specialist after participants complete study tasks;
  • Assist in conducting data management functions relevant to the intervention for the life of the study;
  • Conduct systematic, ongoing data and performance monitoring that includes completeness, data accuracy, data entry timeliness, and query resolution. Data management responsibilities will include completing/developing standard reports and additional reports to meet the needs of the intervention;
  • Conduct literature reviews to inform the study protocol or presentations and publications;
  • Assist in writing sections of or preparing figures for publications and presentations; and perform regular maintenance on the study database;
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with study participants;
  • Conduct phone calls with potential participants to assess eligibility according to inclusion and exclusion criteria that are specified in the protocol;
  • Prepare and submit initial applications, continuing reviews, and amendments to the Institutional Review Board for the Principal Investigator's active (Family Tele mental Health Intervention for Veterans with Dementia) and future studies;
  • Participate in professional development training, and will maintain a current knowledge of new developments in the field by reading professional literature;
  • Provide project-related education, presentations, advertising, etc. to the community at the healthcare system; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
