About the Position:
This position is a Computer Operator working in the US Army Information Technology Agency, Joint Service Provider, Operational Control, located at the Pentagon. Army Information Technology Agency (ITA) has been providing support to customers in the National Capital Region (NCR) since 1995.
Conditions of Employment:
This position is mission essential and not subject to early release for hazardous weather conditions, or closing of the government by Office of Personnel Management. The mainframe must be manned 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. This includes holidays and weekends. Therefore, the position requires assigned shift work based on operational or mission requirements. Overtime is required as workload demands.

Duties
Interpret the messages received, and determines what type of alterations are required in the operating system to insure maximum utilization of the computer equipment malfunction situations which may require adjustments to preclude computer downtime.
Perform operator maintenance by replenishing toner, developer, and advancing the photo conductor; replacing ribbons, paper and film supply; clean tape heads, etc.
Operate on-line peripheral equipment to include high speed impact printer, high speed laser printer, mountable direct access storage devices, card punch and reader equipment, high speed tape drives and computer microfiche equipment.
Operate the main console processing batch, teleprocessing applications programs, and operate peripheral mainframe equipment.
Monitor mainframe system status and performance by observing system messages received on the master console.
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: includes maintaining surveillance over an IBM mainframe running the z/OA, Z/VM, and LINUX operating systems; monitoring the system status and performance by observing system messages; experience with various equipment characteristics and processes in order to activate, monitor and control computer systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
