The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 1 temporary positions at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: September, 2017
Appomattox, Virginia is a small rural community with churches, schools, stores, and doctors available locally. Larger cities are approximately 25-30 miles away with hospitals and more entertainment activities. Average winter temperatures range from 30-40 degrees with snow and ice; average summer temperatures range from 60-90 degrees with humidity.

Duties
Presents talks and leads tours, providing general information relating to the historical and cultural resource themes of the park. Talks are generally brief, given to small groups of visitors, cover a specific topic and utilize previously prepared research and documentation prepared by park staff or others. Operates a visitor contact station to meet and greet visitors and provides Park orientation and area information. Collects and records visitor use statistics, and monitors stocks of brochures and handouts. Operates a variety of audio-visual equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking for distances up to six miles daily, climbing and descending steep inclines, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items in a repetitive motion is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors at the visitors center as well as in outdoor areas resulting in exposure to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight.
