These positions are seasonal in nature. While they provides the same federal benefits of permanent employment, they do not provide for employment on a year-round basis. By law the selectee will work approximately 44 weeks but not more than 50 weeks, in a service year.

Duties

Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to buildings, quarters, and utilities systems.
Perform plumbing related duties including the planning, layout, and routing of piping systems specifically related to water and wastewater systems. Adjusts slant, slope and sets grade of these systems to ensure the proper operation of the water and wastewater systems. Perform video inspection of sewer lines, clearing of blockages, roots and debris from sewer lines, using rods, power augers and hydro-washers. Perform plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines.
Install, repair and replace electrical systems components. Utilize a full range of hand and power tools common to the building trades. Check, troubleshoot and analyze electrical circuitry using proper equipment to measure; current, voltage and resistance.
Check function, troubleshoot, change filters, replace motors, adjust combustion, test and replace thermostats of gas fired forced air heating systems. Install, service and repair evaporative cooling systems including changing of cooling media, replace drive belts, lubricate bearings, replace pumps, replace motors.
Construct, install, repair, replace, and refinish items such as frame structures, roofing, siding, flooring, sheetrock, doors, shelves, supply racks, hardware, windows, trim and cabinets. Apply premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers. Paint various types of structures such as interior and exterior metal, wood and masonry surfaces and a variety of wooden trim and new and old cabinets.
Incidental operator of motor vehicles, trucks, trailers, tractors, skid steer loaders, backhoe, etc.
This work is performed under the normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level maintenance worker who observes tasks in progress and upon completion makes sure they are properly performed.

Qualifications

Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision (Screen out):
Work and training history demonstrates skilled worker level knowledge in the planning, layout, construction, maintenance, and repair of bilding plumbing systems and in at least one or more of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, electrical,heating equipment maintenance, cooling systems maintenance, painting, and roofing, including at least satisfactory, but less than skilled worker knowledge of the others and experience with routine building and grounds maintenance and repair activities (i.e., locksmithing, appliance repair and janitorial care, furniture repair, etc.). Experience must have been performed independently with minimal oversight by a supervisor or with minimal technical support.

This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver's license is required.

As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

If you are tentatively selected for employment in this position, you will be required to complete GSA Form 3607 and submit the above State issued documents. Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver's license.

You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Physical Demands: Work is performed outdoors, often under adverse weather conditions. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking over rough and uneven terrain, standing, working in cramped positions and climbing. Work requires lifting and moving heavy items weighing up to 50 lb.s. Work requires hiking in a mountainous area (elevations above 6,000 feet) over a rough and uneven terrain with backpack/tools up to several miles in a day.

Working Conditions: : Incumbent may have occasional, or potential, exposure to hazardous materials that will require the use of personal protective equipment. Post employment medical certification is required on a periodic basis, in accordance with OSHA requirements, to maintain standing in a respiratory protection program.
