This position is located at Steamtown NHS in the Maintenance Division.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide laborer level work in a variety of trades. 
This is a Temporary Appointment not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.   The tour of duty for this position is Thursday to Monday from 8am to 4:30pm.  The work schedule may be adjusted due to fluctuating work demands or budgetary reasons.  Selectees may only work 1,039 hours in a service year.   This position may be terminated at any time due to lack of work or lack of funds.   Selectees may be eligible for non-competitive rehire in future seasons depending on work demands and budget resources. Later selections may be made from this vacancy announcement as the need arises.

Duties

Cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing and polishing floors. Making minor repairs such as cleaning clogged drains, changing air filters, tightening screws, bolts and doorknobs. Servicing railroad passenger coaches both inside and out, including; cleaning windows, cleaning toilets and assisting in pumping out sewage, cleaning seats, floors, sinks and removing trash. Packing, unpacking, moving, arranging and storing furniture, materials and equipment. Assisting journeyman with railroad track repairs using basic hand and power tools. Performing and assisting in making repairs to buildings and equipment, including; plumbing, HV AC and electrical. Performing general grounds maintenance, including; mowing, weed whacking, edging, shoveling snow, operating snow plows and snow blowers. Moving heavy objects, furniture, supplies and equipment. Routinely lifting and moving objects and materials weighing 40 pounds. Occasionally lifting and moving objects and materials weighing 50 or more pounds.
Steamtown National Historic Site is on lands that formerly comprised the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad yard. Steamtown NHS is located in northeastern Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles from Wilkes-Barre. Hospitals, recreation facilities and entertainment are located throughout the surrounding area. Climate range 10-20 degrees in the winter months, and 90 degrees in the summer (at times high humidity).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X118c, Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupation. To be eligible for this position, you must meet the screen-out element as described in the occupational/assessment questionnaire and as outlined below. Applicants who fail to meet the screen out element will be rated ineligible, without further review.
The Screen-Out Element for this position is:  The ability to do the work of a Laborer without more than normal supervision.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must show that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.   Qualification requirement emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether compensation was received or whether the experience was gained in a part-time or full-time occupation.
Only experience obtained by Monday, June 12, 2017 of this announcement will be considered.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include dates of employment (month and year) and hours worked per week to receive credit for your work experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. You will not receive credit for experience that does not indicate the exact hours worked per week or is listed as "varies". Part-time hours are prorated.

Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid drivers license.
