The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 1 temporary positions at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2017
Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, Missouri (population 150,000). All services can be found in Springfield and surrounding communities. A variety of housing can be found in Springfield and surrounding communities. No government housing is available. Wilson's Creek is located on the northern edge of the Ozarks plateau. Four season weather occurs with hot, humid summers.
This announcement is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.

Duties

Incumbent performs a full range of visitor center operations. Provides visitor information and orientation about park resources and visitor activities. Answers repetitive questions about the park and surrounding area. Operates electronic cash register, collects fees, issues passes, completes end of shift reports. Sells gift store items and assists with restocking. Answers telephone, operates audio-visual equipment, collects visitation statistics, performs minor housekeeping of information desk.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required.  Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is performed at the information desk in the park visitor center.  The visitor center is a climate controlled facility.  High levels of  noise may exist during heavy visitation periods.  Duties may be performed alone or with park partners.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate that you possess either the specialized experience or the education as described below.  Equivalent combinations of experience and education may also be used to qualify.

Applicants must be able to handle, collect, and account for money.  (MUST SUPPORT IN RESUME OR WILL BE RATED INELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION)

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-04 level, you must possess one of the following:

A. One year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Visitor Use Assistant.  General experience includes greeting the public, disseminating information, providing directions and fee collection.  -OR- B. Two years of education above high school (60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours).  This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university.  -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.  In order to receive credit for experience, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the number of hours worked per week.

Credit for experience is given on a 40-hour workweek.  Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience.  No additional credit is given for overtime.

Applicants must possess a valid state driver's license.  This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.  As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.  Your employment, after your tentative selection, will be contingent upon receipt of these documents in a timely manner and that those documents establish, to the satisfaction of the selecting official, that you possess a valid driver's license. 

• Must wear the National Park Service uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
• May be assigned to work nights, early mornings, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
• Occasional travel is not required.
• Occupancy in government housing is not required for this position.
• Government housing is not available.
• Overtime may be required.
• All federal employees are required to have federal payments (salary) made by direct deposit.
• Males born after 12-31-1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (visit www.sss.gov)
