The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 5 temporary positions. These positions are located in the Fee and Revenue Management Branch at Yosemite National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. July, 2017.

Duties

The incumbent will serve as front-line representatives of the National Park Service, often times being the first and only contact the visiting public has with a National Park Service employee. Positions will be stationed at entrance station, campground office, visitor center, and/or other contact station. Provide current and accurate information to visitors concerning Yosemite National Park such as recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concession facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, and descriptions of Yosemite's natural, cultural and historic significance. Provide information concerning the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing park use and safety information. Act as a deterrent to park infractions through their presence at park resources and features and by engaging visitors in informal information sessions. Distribute written information such as maps and brochures and provide directions to park features and resources as well as the areas surrounding Yosemite.
The incumbent will also be responsible for collecting appropriate fees at park entrances, visitor centers, campgrounds, or other contact stations.  In performing fee collection duties: 
The incumbent must follow established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Operate electronic cash registers. Perform opening and closing shift functions. Issue receipts, park passes, and Federal recreation passports. Perform duties to ensure the accurate collection and handling of fees such as completing shift reports to verify money collected, stock sold, and machine transactions using journal and receipt tapes and a register of voided transactions. Prepare remittance reports and band deposits, maintain accountability records and troubleshoot accounting problems. While information dissemination and fee collection are the primary duties the incumbent may perform other duties such as perform traffic control, gather information for accident or incident reports, restock supplies, and other duties to support the safe and enjoyable use of Yosemite National Park by its visitors, depending on the incumbent's skill levels and training. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate that you possess either the specialized experience or the education as described below. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may also be used to qualify.

Selective Placement Factor (Mandatory Screen Out): Handling Money 

Applicants must be able to handle, collect, and account for money. (MUST SUPPORT IN RESUME OR WILL BE RATED INELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION)

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must possess one of the following:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Visitor Use Assistant. Specialized experience includes providing information or assistance to the public in a business or recreation setting; instructing groups of people or individuals; and compiling and analyzing information to report. Experience also included handling, tracking, or depositing monies; using software programs to maintain fee and stock data; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues; and using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions. -OR- B. Four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. -OR- C. Equivalent combination of experience and education.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. In order to receive credit for experience, your resume must clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the number of hours worked per week.

Credit for experience is given on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio, i.e., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience. No additional credit is given for overtime.

Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
