The Pathways Internship Program targets students accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled in a qualifying educational program in an accredited institution, on a full or half-time basis with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. Applicants must meet the definition of "student" in order to be considered for this opportunity. Internship appointments under the Internship Experience Program (IEP) are non-temporary and can last the duration of the student’s academic program. This will be determined at the time of selection. At the successful conclusion of the program, interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position in the competitive service. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules.
Pathways candidates must meet the DOS qualification standards applicable to the position being filled. All applicants must meet the qualifications by the closing date of this announcement.

- Cumulative GPA of 2.0 at time of application and must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA throughout the entire Pathways Internship appointment;
- Degree does not have to be related to the position/series; however to be eligible, candidate must meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern may be converted.
Duties
Policy and Planning Division (DS/MGT/PPD)
The Policy and Planning Division (DS/MGT/PPD) will endeavor to be the creative and professional force for effective engagement in an increasingly demanding and dynamic security environment through exemplary customer service, transparency, accountability, follow-through in communication and commitment to continuous improvement. Policy and Planning endeavors to create productive relationships with oversight bodies in the coordination and development of policy and strategic planning and implementation of evaluation and monitoring, and will be the hallmark for all other similar endeavors.
As an intermediate-level trainee, the employee performs specialized administrative assignments that involve the review and analysis of procedural aspects of the organization's operations and programs. Independently completes information research and analytical projects requiring a basic knowledge of program and mission objectives and analytical methods. Projects and assignments largely involve problems and relationships of a procedural nature rather than the substance of work operations, issues, or other subjects studied. At this level, the employee analyzes the facts in the assignment, then selects and applies accepted analytical techniques. The incumbent does not exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to Program Analyst matters of significance.
The trainee exchanges and develops information, resolves factual discrepancies, and recommends adaptations to methods and techniques to improve the analytical process. Collects specialized information from higher-graded specialists and automated information systems; analyzes and refines relevant data according to established criteria; and presents findings to higher-graded team members or the supervisor.
As a team member, conducts surveys to collect data on administrative activities to determine compliance with applicable regulations and procedures and sound management practices. Interviews employees and supervisors to collect factual information on the operations surveyed; observes work in process; and reviews files and other materials. Surveys deal primarily with procedural aspects rather than the substance of administrative operations. Provides input to the team's findings and presentations.
