The position is established to serve as a "Group Leader" for a non-residential Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program. The employee is responsible for directing a group of YCC enrollees on various projects relating to fish and wildlife habitat improvement and natural resource conservation.
Target duty dates are 6/19/2017 - 08/18/2017, extendable up to 1039 hours.

Duties


  • Instructs a crew of 4-10 YCC enrollees engaged in a wide variety of natural resource improvement projects related to habitat conservation, watershed diversion, stream improvement, etc. This includes planning a variety of natural resource projects and environmental education activities. Provides technical guidance and direction in all phases of each field project to evaluate proper performance and respond to enrollee's questions about the projects. 
  • Provides direction and information to enrollees at the work site for Environmental Awareness (EA), hands-on and participatory activities. Assigns duties on a rotating basis to ensure as broad of a range of natural resource experience as possible for each enrollee. 
  • Provides a sufficient amount of detail to accomplish projects safely and efficiently providing for an adequate amount of time for a quality learning experience. Maintains situational awareness and points out hazards to enrollees. Demonstrates proper use and care of assigned equipment. 
  • Assists in the educational portion of the enrollee's work day by presentations and demonstrations on an assigned subject. Provides direction and information to enrollees at the work site for EA, "hands-on," and participatory activities. Assists in the preparation of EA lesson plans by providing technical data and knowledge on the subject. 
  • Reports enrollees' time and attendance, work progress, and overall assessment of performance. Counsels enrollees on personal and/or group matters. Is alert for any adverse social behavior and discipline problems. Is responsible for security, safety, and control of enrollees. 
  • Drives crew cabs, and passenger vans to transport crew and or materials to the job site.

Travel Required

  • Occasional Travel
  • YCC crew may go up to Columbia NWR in Othello, WA and stay in the bunkhouse for 3-4 nights
