The selectee for this position will serve as a Legal Assistant in the Command Suite, Special Assistant, Legal Division of NAVMEDCEN PORTSMOUTH VA.

Duties
The successful selectee will perform the following duties:
Provides administrative support for the processing of requests for the release of official information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Privacy Act (PA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Provides administrative support for Naval Medical Center Portsmouth's government ethics program.
Assesses, manages and administers departmental supply, budget, training, travel and law library programs.
Originates diverse, technical legal correspondence for supervisor issuance to attorneys, courts and other agencies.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
Reviewing incoming correspondence, call, and visits to ensure that they are properly routed.
Initiating and composing standardized legal documents routinely needed for legal actions.
Locating and compiling information from files.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position such as:
Analyzing legal requests, maintaining accurate files, and preparing prompt and appropriate responses to requests for the release of official information.
Preparing all budget submissions and validating supply needs.
Overseeing travel requests.
Receiving, logging, filing, assessing, processing and drafting timely and responsive replies to requests for documents, witness interviews and testimonies and installation access.
