Summary

This a TERM position, not to Exceed 13 months.

About the Position:
This position is located in the U.S. Army Chemical School on Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, bordering Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2-hour drive east and Springfield is a 1-hour drive west of Fort Leonard Wood.

Duties

As a Freight Rate Assistant, your duties may include the following:

• Receive shipping orders for variety of commodities.
• Classify freight to be shipped.
• Compute cost of shipment using a configuration of weight to mileage, tariffs, rate tenders, commodities etc.
• Review documentation to detect hazardous material being shipped.
•  Prepare documentation for hazardous shipment ensuring all procedures are in accordance with federal and local laws. 
• Prepare Transportation discrepancy reports for incoming shipments.
• Review shipments for ammunition, firearms and sensitive items.
• Provide technical assistance to military shippers regarding transportation policies and procedures.
• Serve in the capacity of systems administrator (SA) for the Transportation Coordinator Automated Information Management System(TC AIMS II) and Cargo Movement Operating System (CMOS).
• Inspect hazardous cargo.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: receiving shipping orders and classifying freight to be shipped; computing cost of shipments and assigning shipment to carriers; providing policies and procedures to military shippers that may effect shipment and assisting in operating transportation management and cargo movement using computer operator systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

• Knowledge of Transportation Services
• Knowledge of Transportation Regulations and Procedures
• Skill in Data Entry
• Ability to Communicate Effectively

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the (GS-05) grade (or equivalent).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this position no substitution of education is allowed.

• One year trial/probationary period may be required.
• Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.
• Position will require occasional evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours, to include mandatory overtime as mission dictates as part of the Departure/Arrival Airfield Control Group (DAACG). 
• Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate HAZMAT Certification Training as detailed in the Defense Transportation Regulation 4500.9-r. 
• Work is performed inside and outside in temperatures ranging from hot to extremely cold. 
• Temporary Duty (TDY) Travel may be required up to 5% of the time.
