This position is located in Pinnacles National Park, in the Division of Visitor Services and Fee Branch. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a GS-0303-4 Visitor Use Assistant. Work is expected to start in June or July, 2017 and last through October, 2017. Duties and responsibilities include the collection, remittance, and depositing of visitor entrance fees and cooperating association (WNPA) monies. The issuance of annual, senior, and access passes to park visitors. Will regularly serve as the point of contact for park visitors in an entrance station, East District Visitors Center or West District Visitor Contact Station, requiring an in depth knowledge of park resources, trails and related visitor inquiries.
This position may provide informal or formal interpretive programs, to assist the Interpretation Division. This may include walks, wayside talks and or evening programs..

This is a TEMPORARY POSITION that will generally last at least 3 months but no longer than 6 months (or 1039 working hours) within one service year. If you are hired from a competitive certificate for a temporary position, you may be eligible for non-competitive appointment to the same position (or another position with the same duties and grade within the same park) in following years.

Duties
The primary duties of those selected for these Visitor Use Assistant (Fee Collection) positions will be to collect and account for fees. Typical duties could also include working at an entrance station, visitor center, or other visitor contact station, collecting appropriate fees; issuing entrance receipts and park passes, following established guidelines for handling government funds, operating electronic cash registers, performing opening and closing shift functions, and preparing remittance reports. Other duties may include visitor management-related services, such as traffic control, lost item assistance and special event set-up/take-down. The incumbent has significant responsibility interacting with visitors and disseminating information. Overtime, holiday, weekend and shift work can be expected. As uniformed employees of the National Park Service, incumbents serve as front-line representatives of this agency.
Additional duties for GS-04: Provides answers to recurring visitor questions, and describes the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession-operated facilities and services, and campground registration processes, explaining regulations. Distributes park brochures and printed material; and informs visitors of potential safety hazards. Receives and appropriately handles or refers complaints. Follows established accountability guidelines for handling government funds. Operates electronic computerized cash register, performs opening and closing shift functions, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and federal recreation passports in accordance with established guidelines, and verifies entrance receipts and various passes for validity dates. Stressful situations may occur on a daily basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
