The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to five (5) temporary positions at Grand Canyon National Park. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2017
The South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park located in Northwest Arizona. Temperatures range from approximately 85 degrees in the summer to 17 degrees in the winter. Grand Canyon Village has schools K-12, a daycare center, post office, general store, banking facilities, churches, a recreation center, a clinic with resident physicians and several restaurants. Complete shopping, educational, medical and professional services are available in Williams (60 mi south) and Flagstaff (85 miles Southeast) of the South Rim.
The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park receives approximately 400,000 visitors between May 15th and October 15th. The North Rim Unit is in an isolated area located 215 miles by road (4 hours travel time) from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The elevation on North Rim is 8,000 feet, with temperatures ranging from-5 degrees in winter to mid 80s in summer. During the summer months, concession facilities are available, such as a restaurant, small general store, and gas station. No schools are located near the North Rim. Basic shopping, educational, medical, and professional services are available in Kanab, Utah, 80 miles to the north. All facilities are closed for winter, starting on October 15th, through May 15th.

Duties
DUTIES: Visitor Use Assistants are uniformed employees of the National Park Service and serve as a front-line representative of the agency. The incumbent provides information and assistance to visitors and collects and accounts for fees at entrance stations and campgrounds. The incumbent provides information on the park's recreational opportunities and services, distributes maps and other printed information, and provides directions. Employees are responsible for collecting fees and accounting for all funds collected. The incumbent performs opening and closing shift functions, enters information into an electronic Point of Sale system, issues entrance receipts, park passes, and verifies entrance passes. The incumbent completes shift reports to verify money collected and accountable stock sold from all transactions. The employee safeguards funds collected and accountable stock and may perform other duties associated with the fee collection program such as restocking supplies, performing traffic control, minor maintenance and campground duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.
