About the Position:Position is located in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. Employee will work for the Directorate of Emergency Services, serving as a Security Guard. This position performs access control and patrol duties on a military installation for the purpose of safeguarding Government personnel, operations, information and all critical assets in accordance with a variety of Federal laws and local agency policies and regulations.
Competition for this position is restricted by law to persons entitled to veteran's preference. If there are no qualified preference eligible, consideration may then be given to non-preference eligibles. Please ensure that you upload documents to verify your veteran's preference, i.e. DD 214, VA Letter, Statement of Service.
Fort A.P. Hill is located 20 minutes south of Fredericksburg, VA which is commonly referred to as the most historic small town in America. The area enjoys less traffic than Northern VA/Wash. D.C., and offers world-class quality-of-life opportunities. Shopping, dining, hunting/fishing, theme parks, battlefields, beaches, winter sports resorts, public schools ranked among the best in Virginia, and Federal Government spousal employment opportunities exist locally or are within an easy commute!
This position is in career program (CP) 19, Physical Security and Law Enforcement
Payment of moving expenses is NOT authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a Permanent Change of Station move is NOT in the Government's best interest.

Duties
- Detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
- Controls access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation. Verifies identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, vehicle decals, verbal questioning, and other means.
- Answers brief visitor questions, determines whether appropriate authorization for access exists, and provides assistance.
- Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles, exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties.
- Operates two-way communications equipment to summon emergency vehicles and crews when assistance is needed.
- Working in the Visitor Control Center (VCC), you will be responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
- Operates and performs research queries on the NCIC National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
