The HR Customer Services and Solutions group is currently accepting applications to fill up to 2 temporary positions at Pullman National Monument. Appointments made under this announcement are limited to 1039 hours (six months) in a service year and may be terminated at any time. Appointments under this announcement are eligible for rehire and/or extension (when initial appointment is less than 1039 hours) if workload and funding allow. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2017



Pullman National Monument is located in Chicago, the third largest metropolitan area in the United States. This new National Park Service site was established in February 2015 and tells the story of 19th and 20th century industrial society and urban planning. It interprets Labor history, including African-American contributions to the American Labor Movement. The park is in the process of development and growing partnerships with the community and stakeholders. World class cultural, recreational, medical, and educational opportunities are available in the region. Public transportation by both bus and train is available to the park. No government housing is available, but there is a diverse range of housing opportunity available within the commuting area. Park employees receive Chicago Locality Pay. Duties


This seasonal, full-time position is located in the Division of Interpretation and Education at Pullman National Monument located in south Chicago. The primary purpose of this position is to present educational and interpretive programs to the visiting public and schools. The primary responsibilities include:

-staffing the shared park visitor center to provide park orientation and information
-make roving contacts with visitors in the historic Pullman community
-conduct outreach programs at fairs, festivals, local events, and off-site locations.
-conduct curriculum-based programs for school groups from diverse areas of the region.

Other duties include assisting park staff with special interpretive projects, working with park partners, teachers and volunteers, and provide a broad audience of park visitors with information, informal interpretation, and formal interpretive programs. Applicant must have the enthusiasm and experience to work on curriculum-based education programs for diverse age groups and audiences along with the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing for long periods of time, walking, climbing and descending stairs, bending, and lifting moderately heavy items is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts, occasional emergency responses, and repetitive nature of interpretive programs. Extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, or other emergency response duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors at the visitor center as well as in outdoor areas resulting in exposure to extreme temperatures, rain, snow, wind and direct sunlight.
