WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED: Open to all qualified U.S. citizens. You do not have to be a current or former government employee to be considered for this position. This recruitment will be used to fill seasonal appointments. These appointments are not to exceed 1039 hours in a twelve month period, although positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.

Duties
This is a temporary full-time position located in Grand Teton National Park at the Western Center for Historic Preservation (the training and project arm of the Vanishing Treasures Program). The primary purpose of this position is to provide craft and technical preservation support for planning and executing hands-on preservation training and preservation projects throughout IMR, PWR and AKR. Training and projects focus on resources ranging from adobe ruins to vernacular log structures; from Alaska to Hawaii; from pre-contact to 20th century. The incumbent will be expected to perform highly technical preservation skills with minimal supervision as part of a team comprised of preservation carpenters, an historical architect, and the Center Director.
Physical Effort: The incumbent performs at construction sites. This may involve working on scaffolds or working with material that is on supports. There is considerable physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of various sizes, weights, and shapes. There is considerable standing, stooping, lifting, and bending. Because of the multi-faceted craft aspects of this position, work is frequently performed in stretching, cramped, or awkward positions. Fieldwork magnifies the physical effort required to perform the duties of this positon and reflect actual restoration project environments. The incumbent performs various duties from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the materials and equipment worked on are in the hardtop reach places. He/she also works under structures, which require him/her to work overhead or in a stretched, cramped, or awkward position. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using such tools as handsaws and planers. Worker may occasionally lift and carry items that weigh 50 pounds or more. Backcountry work may require the incumbent to hike or ride by horseback to the job site in remote locations over rough terrain. Hiking may be required to access backcountry work sites.
Working Conditions: Some work is performed inside the confines of a shop or other Parks, where the incumbent is subject to cuts from hand or power tools, and danger from flying splinters or chips. In the shop the incumbent is exposed to noise and sawdust in the air. The use of some preservative materials may require special knowledge and handling and use of protective equipment. Work is both inside and outside in all types of weather. The incumbent must work at elevations from 6,000 to 10,000 feet. Temperatures vary from 20 to 95 degrees. Winter snow depths may vary from 2 to 6 feet with icy driving conditions involved. The incumbent may be exposed to snow and ice conditions in winter, rain, and extreme heat in summer. Project work is performed on a wide variety of types and conditions of structures. The work is often very dirty or such a nature that may require special protective equipment such as hard hats, safety-toed shoes/boots, goggles, respirators, ear protectors, clothing, etc.
Area and housing information: Grand Teton National Park is located in rural northwest Wyoming. Duty station of this position is Moose, Wyoming, 12 miles from Jackson, Wyoming. Jackson provides a hospital and most other community services; additional facilities are available in Idaho Falls, Idaho (105 miles from Moose). Nearby schools are located in Kelly (8 miles from Moose) and Jackson. Recreational opportunities abound in the area for all manner of winter and summer sports, wildlife viewing, fishing, and miles of backcountry trails. Government housing is not available.
