Duties
Employee will serve as a Health Science Specialist - Research assigned to the Office Research and Development (ORD) Service, General Medical Research (GMR) located at the Veterans Health Administration in New York, NY. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
· Develops Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA)-compliance methods to conduct chart review and gather data values extracted from patient charts in the patient computerized record system and Corporate Data warehouse (CDW). The data collected will include diagnoses, laboratory values, and provider notes.
· Collects data and follow-up data to measure physician behavior change, to analyze difference in behavior before and after the intervention is administered. The intervention will aim to increase appropriate imaging and reduce inappropriate imaging.
· Compiles, tabulates, and summarizes data and provides input in development of reports. Researches and summarizes statistical information for the Principal Investigator and prepares consolidated reports and additional reports to meet the needs of the intervention. Conducts data management functions (e.g., data completeness, accuracy, data entry timeliness, query resolution).
· Conducts literature reviews to inform the study protocol or presentations and publications and assists in writing sections of or preparing figures for publications and presentations. Performs regular maintenance on the study database.
· Prepares and submits initial applications, continuing review, and amendments to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) utilizing guidelines governing the participation of human subjects in research studies.
· Schedules and facilitates study-related meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and maintain communications with all study collaborators.
· Actively participates in professional development training to maintain current knowledge of new developments; maintains knowledge of the project rationale and procedures and communication this to study staff, healthcare staff, participants, and their families.
· Provides project related education, presentations, advertising, etc. to the community at the healthcare system.
NOTE: This is a TERM appointment (not-to-exceed September 30, 2021). Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration (more than 1 year but not more than 4). Term employees are eligible to earn leave and generally have the same benefits as permanent employees including health and life insurance, within-grade increases and Federal Employees Retirement System and Thrift Savings Plan coverage. Term appointments may be extended without further competition (up to a 4 year maximum). The appointment to a Term position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.
