Organizational Location:  This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Laboratories and Scientific Services located in El Paso, TX; Edinburg, TX and San Diego, CA.

Duties

In this position, you will become a key member of the Laboratories and Scientific Services team performing the below typical work assignments:

• Working  with a team of Latent Print Examiners and Latent Print Processors and serve as an expert latent print examiner and latent print processor; processing the more complicated and challenging evidence with state-of-the-art laboratory and photographic equipment;
• Working closely with DHS agents to analyze evidence collected for US Customs and Border Protection investigations;
• Supporting Agents, inspectors, government intelligence agencies, and other CBP officers in the development of criminal cases involving border security, smuggling, human trafficking, and illicit trade practices;
• Using and developing the most advanced techniques, skills, tests and procedures to process criminal evidence and process and examine latent prints; and
• Serving as an expert witness at criminal trails.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. 
Basic Requirement: Current certification from International Association for Identification (IAI).
CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED. FAILURE TO PROVIDE CURRENT CERTIFICATION FROM THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR IDENTIFICATION (IAI) WITH RESULT IN LOSS OF CONSIDERATION.
AND
You qualify for the GS-12 grade level (starting salary $72,168) if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level performing duties such as:

• Analyzing complex fingerprint cases and imperfect and partial latent fingerprint impressions that contain only the minimum number of points necessary to make an identification, and
• Conducting methods development projects to improve latent fingerprint examination capabilities.

The qualification requirements listed above must be met by Friday, April 07, 2017 and are subject to verification at any stage of the application process.
