This position is located in the Division of Business and Administrative Support Services and supports the Branch of Concessions Management.
Work Location: Ash Mountain, Headquarters area
This position is a full-time temporary position not-to-exceed 1039 hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Position may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is May through October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.
Area Information: Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks represent an extraordinary continuum of ecosystems (96% designated wilderness) arrayed along the greatest vertical relief (1,370 to 14,505 feet elevation) of any protected area in the lower 48 states. These parks provide a wealth of recreational opportunities via 835 miles of trails, wild and scenic rivers, alpine lakes, and caves, along with a full range of overnight lodging prospects to choose from that include 14 campgrounds. Duties

MAJOR DUTIES:
The incumbent provides support to the Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) and Special Park Uses program. Primary duties include: answering inquiries from the public and permittees regarding permit conditions and applications, updating requirements and implementing new standards and forms as necessary, facilitating the CUA and Special Use Permit (SUP) application process, preparing and distributing application packets, processing payments and preparing permits for final review and execution.
Provides support for annual Mineral King permit administration and issuance and will support other permit needs as needed or assigned. The candidate is the primary data entry and collection person for CUA usage tracking reports and is the primary contact for CUA holders, providing customer service support to our clients/partners. The incumbent may prepare draft correspondence as assigned. Execution of duties will require extensive communication with permittees and coordination across divisions.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

Experience: At least one full year of full-time specialized experience at the GS-04, or equivalent level, in concession management assistance work, or in a directly related field. Examples of qualifying experience includes: responding verbally or in writing to inquiries or complaints pertaining to concession operations (rules, regulations, appropriate formats and provisions of contracts, procedures in competing for contracts, applying for permits, and the status of solicitations or correspondence); tracking a unit's budget; tracking staff time and processing payroll documents; making travel arrangements; preparing travel authorizations and vouchers, maintaining official files and preparing reports for such files; assisting in the preparation of reports, fact sheets, and correspondence on concession-related issues and information.

OR

Education: Completion of at least 4 years of progressively higher level education above the high school level from an accredited college or university, in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite, leading to a bachelor's degree. If qualifying based on education, you MUST provide copies of your transcripts with your application package.

OR

Combination:Combination of specialized experience and undergraduate level education of the type and level described above. Example of a qualifying combination: 6 months of specialized experience (50% of the required specialized experience described above, and two years of education leading to a bachelor's degree (50% of the education requirement as described above may qualify an applicant for this position.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work experience.  One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per work week.  Part-time hours are prorated.  You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.

Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.

Work Schedule: You may be required to work overtime.

Background Check: A background security investigation will be required for all new hires.  Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication.  Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
